Long Boat Key Picture Post

Mermaids, Pirates and Rum – the Pearl!!

Elizabeth Pearl is owned by Phil and Candy who have decorated her with Pirate and Mermaid paraphernalia.  One of my favorites is the bathmat in the owners head that says “mermaids crossing.”  Phil also has an awesome wooden barrel which he uses to convert standard rum into “Phil’s Pirate Rum.”

In Georgetown, Phil and Candy made a cloudy crappy day into one of the best days we had with their hospitality, easy going nature and of course their Defever 44 (I got a fever!).  Our whirlwind tour of southern Florida only gave us two nights on Long Boat Key and it wasn’t enough but it was what we had.  We would spend the day busy catching fish and stone crabs, smoking mullet, cruising in the center console boat or the golf cart and in the evening after kids were asleep hanging out on the deck. Generally the girls would retire early but Phil and I would do our best to get to the bottom of that cask.  Despite our best efforts we never quite made it.

I love the curve of the necks of these birds.

Smores around the fire, can a day end any better.

S’mores around the fire, a great way to end a great day.

This lizard was a stow away on the boat that James found. I wondering what James would have done had it found its way into the shirt.
