School’s Out for the Summer!

Our original European travel plans were to fly into Prague, but it was difficult to arrange the itinerary. We decided on Germany and enjoyed some excellent beer and pretzels while we were there.

Well, the dog days of summer yawn in front of us.  James had a bit of a head start as the American School let out three weeks before PDO School.  Don’t get me started on that…

Enjoying the lounge at the new Muscat International Airport before heading out.

We decided to spend a couple of weeks in Europe before heading back to Canada.  We flew to Munich and spent a few days exploring on foot, by bicycle and by metro, the history and architecture of this old German city.

Of course, no vacation of ours is complete without a Viator biking tour!

Nothing to see here folks, just a pile of bikes that they dredge out of the river every year.

The Walking Man sculpture by Jonathan Borofsky. It stands 17 metres tall and weighs 16 tonnes and is found near the business district of Munich.  Germans hate it for some reason so they planted trees in front of it to hide it.

A beautiful green space in the heart of Munich.

Chinese Beer Gardens

This is how Germans surf: in a canal, near a bridge, in the middle of the city.

We also did a lot of walking!  We would take the train for a couple of stops and then get out and walk the streets.

Beer steins and cuckoo clocks. Thankfully all of the clocks were set to different times. Can you imagine the racquet on the hour otherwise?

Marienplatz Square, a very popular spot, obviously. This was one giant cuckoo clock that put on a little show every hour. Kinda neat.

Lots of walking and lots of pictures!

Does anyone else think of the movie Shrek when they see this picture?  Donkey?

This kid has always loved trains.

Ethan was impressed that he was taller than these cars.

A Ford model T and a “blimp inspired” car from the same era.  No one wanted to drive or buy the blue car on the right as they thought it looked too spacey.

My favorite little Vespa.

Matthew having some chill time in the kids play area.

Jeeps!

First ever bike, runner style.
