Pictures from our visit to Madrid. Check out the awesome website from Museo del Ferrocarril de Madrid a railway museum.

Number 9 of 10 and only surviving 242-F-2009 which rain from 1955 to 1974 and had a top speed of 150km/hr (90mph) the fastest steam engine in Spain. FYI the speed record for steam engines is 203 kph (126 mph) set in Britian by a 4-6-2 named the Mallard in 1938.

A train from 1950 running at 135kph and revolutionary with inclusion of air conditioning, separate reclining seats and doors at platform height.

We walked past the Museo Nacional del Prado, a modern art museum. Richard was the only one who was looking forward to this, as the rest of us were tired and ready to go home. You can’t do it all, especially with kids!

The Palacio de Cristal, within the Parque del Retiro. It was built in 1887 to exhibit plants and animals from the Philippines. It is designed to be disassembled and moved but has sat in its location since construction. Wish they would have stayed with the Philippines instead of Federico Guzmán’s Tuiza: The Cultures of the Bedouin Tent.
