Budapest

Our last stop in Europe this time was Budapest.  It is beautiful city full of monuments and grandiose structures.  The street food was amazing too.

Hot chocolate break for the crew after walking for a few hours.

That tree is in the wrong place. Also I had to stitch two pictures together to fit the whole hashtag in because there is a building right in front of the sign so you can’t back up enough to get it all in the picture with one shot.

Let the good times roll… We definitely dealt with some of our pork withdrawal from Oman.

We got to Budapest on New Years Eve.  The guys at the front desk said there would be a fireworks show at 9:00 so we went for a walk to see if we could find the spot.  In the end, we discovered that there was no show and the 2 hours of aimless walking in the cold beside the river isn’t the most fun way to spend New’s Eve.  We all went to bed before midnight though I was woken up by tons of fireworks at midnight.

We also went to the baths which were busy but still with enough room to enjoy. It was really windy that day and the water was barely hot enough to keep you warm. Walking from pool to pool or from the outdoor to indoor ones was freezing.  Steam rooms were unusable due to the amount of traffic in and out.  The sauna however, really hot, and stayed that way despite the traffic.

City Market. The “food court” is a skinny aisle that has massive lines and pushing people on it. Good luck finding a place for 9 to get food and then enjoy it. Once you are in you are stuck so we had to endure about 20 minutes of pushing to get out of it. Food did look good though – just impossible to buy.

I took James’ exit ticket at the entrance and then left him on the wrong side of security. It took him a minute to figure what happened as we all exited and he was stuck.

Merlin or Gandalf?  I am sure that is not what the sculptor was going for.

The awful local drink that we all tried one sip of and then dumped.  Tasted like Jagermeister gone wrong.
